The PSA PMG was founded by Jennifer Lees-Marshment in October 2001 under the auspices of the UK Political Studies Association
Darren Lilleker took over as Chair in 2005 and has an active committee and recruits people from a wide range of backgrounds, and now has an international outreach with international coordinators, membership and activity.
The mission of the PMG is: to effectively promote and support, by what ever means appropriate, the study of political marketing by all those interested regardless of academic discipline, status, academic institution or profession.
